He handed her a glass of champagne and sat next to her. “My lawyers will be by tomorrow with the prenup, my love. As soon as the business is complete, we’ll go to the courthouse and then you will really be mine.” He smiled contentedly and continued with their itinerary. “We will fly to Florida tomorrow and…”
“Forget it, it’s all off. Tomorrow, you can take me back to Idaho, and I don’t mean back to Templetons.” Her anger was mounting with each word. “I’ve had it with you, Mr. Templeton. All your threats… well, I don’t care anymore. Burn the place down, murder Quinton. I really don’t care anymore about anything.” She stood and looked down at him. “Like what you see? You made me what I am today, an angry and lonely woman. Yep, that’s me. God, how could you do this to me?” She wiped the tears that were gushing down her face.
He stood and threw his arms around her and hugged tightly. “No, no. Now hush, sweet princess.” He lowered her down into her chair and sat next to her, squeezing her hand tightly. “Now, what brought on this behavior?” He sat back in his chair. “Oh, I see. Wedding jitters, eh?”
She pulled her hand away and glared at him. “I’ve done everything you ever asked of me, I’ve surrendered myself to you in every way imaginable, and you have the nerve to ask me to sign a prenup? God, I must have been crazy to think we could be a team. I gave you everything and you pay me back by this?”
He started laughing. “That’s what you’re upset about? Dear lady, it’s just a formality. Anyone worth a lot of money needs to take precautions, that shouldn’t be so hard to understand.”
She didn’t back down. “No, you just don’t get it, do you? You owe me. If anything were to happen to you, it’s me that needs to be protected. If you can’t understand that, then the whole thing is off.” She stood to leave, but he was too quick. Grabbing her arm, he pulled until she was in his lap.
