The chief took out his little book and began studying his notes. “Well, it seems that there are quite a few unexplained problems in your past that need to be addressed. Like in Chicago, eight years ago. You had some problems with the union members at one of your plants, and it seems that the leader went missing. After that, your problems seemed to disappear. Jim was working for you then, wasn’t he?”
Templeton became serious. “Look, Chief Trummel. I have had some luck with my business ventures in the past, but I still don’t think that Jim is capable of doing such heinous crimes as you seem to be suggesting. But yes, he was with me at that time, and he has been privy to my business problems. He is my assistant, and I trust him, he’s a good man, Chief.”
“Ok, I’m just looking at all the facts, Mr. Templeton.” Chief Trummel stood. “Again, thank you for your time. I know you’re a busy man. Oh, and again, best wishes to you and your new bride.”
