Play It Cool
Data collected by the Environmental Protection Agency suggests that hot weather extremes have a greater effect on mortality than cold weather. Humidity is another important factor in mortality since it contributes to the body’s ability to cool itself through evaporation of perspiration.
Heat affects mood changes, often contributing to higher incidences of aggression. Warmer temperatures increase the body’s metabolism, which provides energy for Summer activities and for shedding unwanted winter weight. Many factors influence the health of the human body. A simple understanding of how your body works under normal conditions helps prepare you for seasonal changes. In order to allow your body to digest completely and cool down during the sweltering days of Summer, plan to take adequate rest periods, consume lighter meals and drink sufficient amounts of water.
