I should have just listened to John and stayed out of it.
Now, all I want to do is take a pain pill for the hammering going on in my head and relax. I was turning onto my street when my cell rang.
“Okay, spit it out. What’d you do this time?” Shirlene asked in a huff.
“Well, it’s hard to put into words…um…” I stuttered. The Booker had that effect on me. She was almost always right. Okay, she was always right.
“Just spit it out Anna,” she persisted.
“I may have stumbled across a body...or two” I mumbled.
“You what? Are you saying you came across two dead bodies since I last spoke to you? How is that even possible?” she exclaimed.
“It’s not my fault. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“That seems to happen to you quite often, doesn’t it? I’m sure John is about to blow a gasket! Are you intentionally trying to ruin things with him, Anna? I mean really?” she asked
