Chul followed her from stall to stall in the market. Rose had yet to purchase anything as she worked her way toward the back.
Rose stopped at a women’s clothing stall. She fingered the blouses and selected a bright red short-sleeved one.
“This will be great for when I go to Martinsburg with my program,” she said to Chul. “Is it ok if I try it on?”
He blushed and fidgeted, just like she thought he would. The last few days with him around 24/7 hadn’t been terrible. But this wasn’t how Rose imagined her final weeks in Queenstown — figuratively chained to a patrol officer.
Rose ducked into the changing room, tossing the blouse onto the floor, and parted the curtains at the back. She creeped between the curtain and the wall, navigating the exact same pathway she’d taken so long ago. At least it felt like ages. So much had happened since she’d watched Carrie dodge all the cameras and navigate out of the market completely unseen.
Rose sped through the back end of the market toward the loading dock, thankfully encountering no one. She held her breath as she peered onto the loading dock.
