Freshly showered and in her favorite white velvet dressing gown, Bliss headed for her kitchen, looking forward to her first morning coffee. She turned into her living room and saw a man’s leg hanging over of the end of her couch. She screamed and stumbled backward.
Shit, shit, shit. She spun and reached toward her home link, ready to hit the emergency number and run.
A blond head appeared over the couch’s back, as did two hard arms bracing a pewter gray blaster.
Mid-scream, she stopped and her mouth fell open, but she closed it on a hard clack of teeth. Fury and fright coated and hitched her words. “What the freak are you doing here?”
Kaid traced his laser blaster around the room, met her eyes, then dropped it to his side. “Shit. Sorry, hot thing, didn’t mean to scare you. I came to stay last night and guard you.”
“You broke into my house?” Bliss’s body went so still and tense, she figured it would take Mary the masseuse a month to de-knot her muscles. She’d send Kaid the bill.
“Err…well…maybe.”
She looked out the window while she picked up a glass paperweight and delighted in the smoothness and weight. Thrown hard it would hurt when it hit his dumb head. “Where’s your car?”
“I hid it.”
She lifted the glass ornament, sighed, and put it back down. “Jesus, you’ve broken into and entered my home, without permission—again?”
