Jodi is motivated to pay it forward. “Hey, honey, take a look at this.”
Jackson leans over and looks at Jodi’s iPad. “What am I seeing?”
“Look at his chart; it shows that according to estimates from the US Census Bureau, millennials have surpassed baby boomers as the nation’s largest living adult generation.”
“Really? We have been displaced!” Jackson jokes, but he clearly isn’t sure where Jodi is going with this conversation.
“Millennials will be between ages twenty-five and forty in 2021, and GenXers will be ages forty-one to fifty-six. In 2019, millennials numbered 72.1 million and GenXers are projected to pass baby boomers in population by 2028.”43
“Interesting.”
Puzzled that Jackson isn’t making the connection, Jodi clarifies by saying, “My point is, as we age, like our parents, we may need help. That means our children get caught in the sandwich generation. Meaning we should probably look at what options are out there for us. I suggest a redo.”
“A redo?”
“Of the three simple steps.”
“Oh, yes, of course, I should have thought of that.”
“We are in pretty good health, we are financially making good progress with our investments and savings, the kids are busy with their lives, and we are aware that extended health-care resources are not abundant. Why risk blowing up everyone’s lifestyle and career paths if we can plan and take that risk off the table?”
