The Care Planning Team (CPT) provides a structure for multigenerational discussions and assessments. CPT members each have a voice. As a group, they discover available options that suit each generation’s immediate, extended, or long-term care needs. The generational diversity of the group should encourage and require respect and acknowledgement of different lifestyles and generational priorities. When it is time to seek professional advice or support, the CPT members are educated consumers—ready to discuss options, ask relevant questions, and make decisions!
These three steps are achievable. They provide a gateway to important conversations that are often hard to start, but are always better to have before a crisis hits. Even though the Jones family is fictitious, these scenarios play out every day. Hopefully, seeing the Jones family work through their issues, choices, and roadblocks will inspire you and give you courage to take the first step towards planning with multigenerational family members and/or friends. Products and services may apply differently to your situation, but this story should increase your familiarity with the available options and move you to action. Knowledge is a powerful tool.
