Creating a Care Squad is a simple but effective step for being inclusive while organizing limited resources. Start with tasks that fit easily into a Care Squad member’s current lifestyle or capability. If you are the on-a-flight caregiver but can review bills, that’s perfect. If you can help with on-call needs such as being available to drive to doctor appointments, volunteer for that. If you are on-the-side but can review technology options as an aid to aging-in-place, take on that role. If you live close by, volunteer to grab the Care Guide in an emergency. Find things that work easiest or best with current availability and only then move on to things that might be more of an infringement on an individual’s schedule.
Assigned roles help to minimize chaos and hysteria. Finally, knowing they are part of the family Care Squad, family members or friends feel less helpless or discounted.
Let’s see how the generational Jones family handle Step Two.
