August held his daughter’s face in his hands and kissed her forehead. “I love you.” His eyes lifted to meet his wife’s; this time they begged.
Eleanor responded by sliding her glance away from his and folding her arms. “When will you be back? I need some money—she needs clothes.”
“You always need money.”
“It costs money to drive, money to eat--little piglet loves to eat.”
August cringed at the slur meant for his daughter, but he let it slide, held Tiffany close to him and hugged her again.
