“Excuse me for biting my nails,” Carrie apologized to Mrs. Lloyd, a long time customer of Grocery World.
Carrie liked the older woman; she was always so polite and patient. They had become friends, sort of, at least Grocery World friends.
“That’s okay honey; I know you’re trying to quit smoking.” The woman leaned in a bit, lowering her voice, “It’s a bitch. I remember when I quit, I was mean as a snake and I gained forty pounds.” She tittered as she continued plucking canned goods from her cart.
“Thank you, Mrs. Lloyd, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”
