“Oh, don’t start crying. Getting fired isn’t the end of the world. It just means you’re not a robot.” The scowl on Paula’s face softened as she watched Carrie tear a strip of nail from one of her fingers.
“You’re going to have to stop that, though.”
“Things have been…weird, for lack of a better term, since…you know.”
Paula nodded. “That episode with Hank and-”
Carrie brushed the air with her hand and shook her head no. “I can handle that.”
“Sure doesn’t look like it.” Raising an eyebrow, Paula continued, “A lot of things have happened to you in the past year.”
“I don’t like thinking about it,” Carrie waved her hand through the air again. “Maybe all the tourists-terrorists-whatever you call them, are right. We do need their money. I don’t know how I’m going to make it without a job.”
