Carrie touched a finger to her nose, then to Laire’s. “Nose - this is my nose.” She’d been repeating the word for days.
Touching her own, Laire echoed, “Nosh,” and smiled scrunching her face in laughter.

How much was sinking in, Carrie wondered. “You’re a smart little girl, aren’t you?” She pointed to her nose again and repeated, “Nose.” Laire echoed her. Nose had sunk in. Momma smiled, on to other words to add to the list.
