“You responsible for this?” he growls. “Care to explain what this is all about, or do I just wing it with our young constituent, Mr. O’Malley?”
The alderman steps forward. “Happy to explain, sir. I do some community service in the classrooms now and then. Empowering kids, you know. For when they’re old enough to vote, that is. But I’m certainly not familiar with this young lady or aware of her petition about carriage horses.” He shrugs helplessly and steps back into the group of waiting council members. His colleagues clap him on the back, enjoying his discomfort at being called out by the mayor.
