“We are twins.” His voice sounds far away. “Born to ride horses.”
“So you’re kinda like a cowboy?”
He playfully pokes her in the shoulder blade. “Sí, but no cows in Chicago.” She gives him a backward elbow, but he catches it just in time. “Right, just steak.” They both chuckle at his joke for a minute and fall silent. She glances at the vacant building.
“Okay, city gaucho. You want to help save a carriage horse, right? Well, we gotta have a plan. My dad always says, ‘You need an edge to overcome uncertainty.’ And things are kind of uncertain right now, don’t you think?”
