Ignoring the protestors, the mayor announces, “Well, I guess it’s time to get this holiday started, folks. Are we ready for the Magnificent Mile holiday season to begin?” The crowd begins to whistle, stomp, and cheer.
Mayor Ramírez reaches for the oversized switch on the podium. It’s now or never. Time to step up and help make a difference. Maxzyne grits her teeth. Before she can change her mind, she ducks under the black velvet rope, startling the security detail. The burly men spring into action. Scared but defiant, Maxzyne stands her ground. She jumps up and down, waving her arms and yelling, “Save our horses, Mr. Mayor. Save our carriage horses!”
