After agreeing with Micah that we could not afford Christmas presents for each other that year, I was surprised when I found a large package with my name on it under the tree. When I opened the package, it was a lovely leather jacket ... for a man. Micah had spent the last of my retirement money on a leather jacket for himself.
After the initial shock wore off, a wave of hurt and disbelief washed over me.
Who is this selfish stranger I am living with, anyway? Can this be the same man I married? I have never met anyone who was this selfish. What can he possibly be thinking of? What am I to do? I have a baby to take care of, a husband who refuses to get a job, and he won’t let me work—and now he spends our last few dollars on a luxury for himself! What can I do about this now?”
