Couldn’t wait to return across the Hi-Line,
home to the small white house in the small town
each spring and open the studio in the pantry.
Smock and paint tubes, canvases,
the smell of baking bread and turpentine,
a dwindling paradise as friends die off,
dumping autumn ashes on the daffodils,
daughters getting older.
