“John, me lad, we’ve talked about this before, and it always ends up the same! You get thrown out, and I lose out on me tips. So tip me now, before I lose my chance of making a few bob!”
John C was in an argumentative mood as he responded, “Listen, love, I’m happy to give you the tip you want, so long as it is attached to the rest of me shaft. In fact if you’re not doing anything later we can…..”
Jacob interceded and tactfully asked, “Miss, we were only wondering why it was so loud here. Is there some special activity going on that would account for the extra background noise?”
The waitress was a little disarmed at Jacob’s polite manners, but smiled sweetly and replied, “We do have a guest tattoo artist visiting and taking orders. His portfolio is quite impressive, and the audience that is engaged with him are somewhat vocal. He boasts fast tattooing and his portfolio indicates quality work. I myself have asked for a nice Claddagh ring to be located in a very discreet spot for my man to enjoy.”
“And what is that, madam?” inquired Jacob.
She giggled and yet looked a little dreamy as she explained, “It has a heart in the center to represent love with Mick’s initials, a crown on top to represent loyalty, and two hands on either side holding the heart showing friendship or, as like to fancy, Mick taking care of me heart.”
She sighed and continued, “The artist is from America and only here tonight. He did a quick sketch and promised to reserve it for only me, if I get it tonight. But he is expensive. Therefore, all I’m asking for is generous tipping this evening, gents.”
Jacob’s curiosity was piqued, so he asked, “Who is so famous that he takes his tattooing skills on tour?”
The waitress smirked and stated, “Ye mean, ye don’t know of Gentleman Josh, the tattooist? He’s one of your own. My, but you do lead a sheltered life, kind sir!”
