Juan watched Julie as she slept. Even though the doctor had approved her travel to Luxembourg and the chartered flight had completed without an issue, he was too concerned about her and the babies she carried to sleep. Her family home in the city of Luxemburg was far more lavish than he expected. The staff however had greeted her like the child they all missed and measured his worth in covert glances.
They were led to a beautiful room suitable for a couple, while Julie had indicated her old room was down the hallway. Exhausted after their travels, she had shed her clothes and curled up in the enormous bed. By the time he had finished his shower, she was fast asleep. He smiled at the beautiful woman he now called his wife and who would soon to be the mother of their twins. Perhaps it was the nervousness of getting married and impending fatherhood that kept him awake. He worried that he might not be very good at the father thing. Julie had no such worries.
It had been dark when they arrived, so he hadn’t seen the outside of the home. The inside reflected refined furnishings and the color coordination he knew was characteristic of Haddy’s great taste. He suspected that everything was coordinated in every room, as it was in this one. This room was surprisingly gender neutral with touches that appealed to his taste and splashes of color that Julie enjoyed. The bathroom was large with a shower big enough for two, even with his pregnant wife, as well as a bathtub and candles that would make for some delightful romance.
As he mulled over the possibilities for their future together, he finally drifted off to sleep. He woke to his Julie, freshly showered and dressed, smiling at him, and just out of his reach.
He chuckled, knowing she was just far enough away on purpose, as he asked, “Sweetheart, can you come a little closer? I would love a morning kiss.”
“No, darling. I didn’t mean to wake you, but you look so nice lying in bed. I was thinking about having my way with you when the kicking began, and I realized I was starving. I was going to go downstairs and get some breakfast. Would you like to go back to sleep or come with me?”
Juan stretched and looked her over from head to toe with admiration. “I would rather you come back to bed. However, you haven’t eaten in a while, and eating for three is important. Take four steps back, and I will get dressed, and we will go down together. I would have no idea where to go if you left me.”
She laughed and took six steps back, well out of reach, and he still was at her side in a flash. He thoroughly kissed her and almost distracted her enough to forget about eating, when one or both twins kicked.
Juan reached down and placed his hand on her rounded stomach as he asked, “Okay, which one of you did that? I get it, eat first, and play later! Good idea.”
