“Eilla-Zan, I really appreciate your help with the report,” Keith said. “You remembered some details I had forgotten and the UC attributes you brought up added an extra dimension I had not considered. So, thank you. Now all I need is a cover letter for this report and it can go out via our email server encrypted. Let’s see, it should sound something like…..”
An office coworker knocked on the door, then leaned in and grimly said, “Keith, when she couldn’t find you on Instant Message and you didn’t answer the phone, she called the managing partner insisting you were unresponsive. She contended you promised to deliver the report today which was the date you requested. So, my recommendation is to pitch it to the bitch however rough it might be. Of course you could always deliver it to her orally,” he suggestively stated with a big grin.
Keith slowly closed his eyes and solemnly stated, “I never should have told you that. And more importantly, I wish you hadn’t said that in front of Ms. Marshall, our subcontractor.”
The colleague realized the social faux-pas he had committed, so he hastily added, “By the way, if you wanted to send it to her using our email server, it is down, clogged with viruses and SPAM. So go to plan B.”
Keith lamented, “Oh no! Argh! What am I going to do? Throw it on a USB drive and take it to her? Ugh, no thanks.”
The colleague offered, “We’ve been going over to the local coffee shop and using their Wi-Fi access to get to our personal email providers to get our work done.
“Funny isn’t it, all our work now comes in and goes out via email. When it’s unavailable everything grinds to a halt. Catch you later.”
Eilla-Zan, trying to avoid the first part of the exchange between Keith and his peer, offered, “Do you want me to take it to this person on a USB drive? I would if that would help.”
“No, though I really appreciate the offer. This report is to be delivered only by employees of this firm. She would pitch a fit, as she has previously demonstrated, at any bend of the contract. Plus, she insists communications directed to her only for this assignment with her managing distribution. Your clearance won’t get you to her door in a timely fashion based on her preemptive escalation actions.”
“Ok, so let’s craft up a quick cover letter, put a password on the report, zip it up and get over to the Wi-Fi hot spot so you can access your private email account and meet your deadline.”
Keith zipped up the report file after one more rapid read through by both of them. He applied the password previously agreed to by contract. Then he typed up a hastily written cover letter with some word changes suggested by Eilla-Zan that met the requirements.
Date-Today
Ms. Krumhunter,
Per our company’s arrangement with your organization and my instructions from you, please find attached the report that details the investigative findings on how to potentially leverage nanotechnology produced in this country, in conjunction with our partner government communications technology, which should allow us to stitch together the battlefield communications solution you seek.
The attached file is password protected per our previous agreement. However, if needed, I can text that password to your cell phone as soon as the file has been sent.
Apologies in advance for not using our normal encrypted email service, but our regular email service is down and we of course wanted to comply with your deadline.
Regards,
Keith Avery
“Ok. Let’s go get some coffee, madam, and get this bad boy off!”
