Juan listened intently, without interruption, to his Uncle Jesus as he recounted the story. A couple of times Juan started to say something but caught himself and motioned for Jesus to continue.
Jesus offered, “I know what you’re going to say, nephew, but I didn’t break my word to you and your brother Carlos. When you two got me out of the drug trafficking trade, I took my money, with the new identity, and went to ground. I’ve been lounging in the Caribbean for most of the time since I last saw you two, just taking it easy. But I got bored, with nothing much to do except order Fruity Chick Drinks while moving from one seaside resort to another.
“I started to take stock of myself and realized I needed some gainful employment other than subsidizing the top heavy female waitresses who all claimed to be going to school to justify the heavy tips they felt entitled to receive. It was fun for a while, but it became obvious that my money wasn’t going to support me and my following of groupie University students. While I was studying the silver frame on my prized Velvet Elvis painting, it struck me that I could be investing in precious metals, like maybe silver or gold even.
“Don’t laugh, but I did me some research on the subject and was amazed at how familiar I was with some of the mines. I located, in Mexico’s Bajío region, the largest silver mine in the world. Guanajuato is one of the leading centers of silver mining in the world, and it’s not far from the village of La Valenciana, which is a little north of Guanajuato. I decided to take a look. As I was touring there, I found an advertisement for the El Tigre Company that boasted of being able to place investors into their mining operations.
