Julie looked at Juan after they disconnected and rolled her eyes. “I don’t know how much trouble she is in but she seemed a bit off. What do you think?”
Juan clucked his tongue and offered, “I think she is uneasy and has devices in the place she is unable or unwilling to shut down. That ‘no stone unturned and everything installed’ before she got there was my clue. We checked this place out. Heck, your family has even done business at times with this Global Bank, haven’t they?”
“Yes, they have. Petra has been the primary contact now and again for security, but nothing in a year or more. Ingrid has been there for a while, and Otto’s notes indicated he trusted her after several jobs with her. It was Tonya that Petra and Otto didn’t care for, but rumor has it she moved to Indonesia for a better job.
“My clue was her marketing reference. The only reason she made any money, if you recall, was because we insisted that the team, our customers, and all their friends buy from the kids. What a hoot. She knew then it wasn’t her marketing that was driving the sales, and here she is again telling us there is something else in play.”
“Okay, Mom, so when are we going to New York?”
Julie grinned and wrapped her arms around him. “You said there was a show you wanted to take me to and a great new hotel? Let me know, big boy, when you get it arranged.
“I’m going to call Quip and tell him to expect a transmission, and to let us know when it arrives.”
She planted a deep kiss and then broke away, leaving Juan standing there with a smile growing on his face at the possibilities of a quick getaway.
