Carlos smiled as he read the text message on his fruit phone. He read it a second time to savor the intent of the message and then dialed to speak with Lara.
Lara answered on the first ring and hoped to not sound as anxious as she felt. “Hello, my prince! Do you have time to talk, or is this a bad time? I mean, I can call back if this is inconvenient, or if there is someone else there such that you cannot …”
Carlos chuckled and interrupted, “Sweetheart, there is no one else for me but you. So stop it. Now is a good time. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t have called, now would I?”
Lara chided herself for sounding like a teenager as she blurted, “Oh, Carlos, I want to come see you to talk about us. Would that be okay? I know that I’m not happy about how things are with us separated. I need to know how you feel about us. I was in a board meeting, and I got panicky all of sudden that we might not be the pair we began as. Now I am scared that….”
Carlos rolled his eyes and intervened, “Honey! Slow down! I’m right here. No, there isn’t someone else here taking your place in my bed or my heart! You’ve been working, and I have been working. I agree, it’s time to make us work. Yes, please, pack up that gorgeous body of yours and ship it here to Georgia, and we will work through everything. Yes?”
Lara was now on emotional overload. As tears of relief streamed down her cheeks, she agreed, “Yes, my love! I’m coming. See you soon, sweetheart!”
