“Still no sign of Kahrnahrgx, then?” Peter asked.
“No.” Kimar replied, staring into the brilliantly clear night sky.
Heidi, Amy and Danielle lay side by side and stared into the mesmerizingly beautiful canopy of stars. Johann stared, instead, at Ita-Mudak, who had perched himself on the western edge of the barn roof. The farmer was reasonably certain that the barn’s timbers could support the weight of the gargoyle.Jah, he is the smallest of the lot, eh?he thought.
“Well, then, what’s next?” Peter continued.
“That is unclear, Peter,” Ercen interjected. “We believe that with the destruction of Kahrnahrgx’s Key, his power was critically diminished. Perhaps it was even destroyed, but Kimar doesn’t think so. What we do know for certain is that our scouts have not been able to sense a location for him…or many of his most loyal followers, for that matter. However, many of his junior minionshavebeen found and imprisoned. It is our hope that some may be redeemed back into our fold. But that path is difficult and long…”
Only the sound of a crackling fire disturbed the solitude of the gathering.
