Delving deeper in Part 2, This is Why She Falls Apart, Evergarden explores the delicate tapestry of self-worth and self-love, tracing the complicated journey of survival and reliance amidst inner turmoil and despair.
Entering a transformative phase in Part 3, Leaving Her Graveyard, the protagonist awakens to the potential of becoming everything she once believed she wasn’t, finding the resilience to confront her inner demons and emerge stronger.

She is afraid of herself.
That is what makes this tiny passage hurt.
The monster isn't waiting beneath her bed. It has learned her name, borrowed her body, and convinced her that everything frightening about her must also be everything true about her.
Then comes the gold.
Not because i wanted to make her beautiful enough to deserve tenderness.
Because she already deserved it while believing she was the monster.
“Bury her in halos and gold” is almost excessive on purpose. If shame has spent years making her monstrous in her own imagination, then i wanted the page to become extravagant with her worth.
Cover her in light.
Give her more gold than the darkness knows what to do with.
Diaries of a Borderline lives inside that contradiction: the person someone fears becoming can exist beside the person still worthy of being held.
If you've ever mistaken the parts of yourself that hurt for proof that you were impossible to love, you may recognize her here.
