“Why do we reject the parts of us trying to thrive!” she screamed.
The earth hummed.
The air stilled.
The water waited.
The skies turned red, and crackling whispers oozed from out the holes in scarlet black.
This was a part of you, my dearest.
Healing and blossoming and thriving means acknowledging the past you survived did happen, but it is not all that is happening, nor is it all that will happen.
As I grew full in years, I learned healing was a constant renewing of vows to self-forgiveness, self-acceptance, and self-love.
I learned to love myself even when hurricanes decimated dreams built from the ground up, holding hope and love in-between four walls.
I learned to love myself when the sparrow sang in the yew tree just before twilight fell, as the night awoke.
I love myself no more or less, whether it be a hurricane or a meadow with clear skies or air that smells like cotton candy.
I learned as pain turned to lessons, and lessons taught me when to blossom and when to enjoy the view right in front of me.
The girl breathed as the sky grounded itself back to shades of promises kept.
She looks at the violet butterfly fluttering above her right shoulder.
She’s grateful she left her mother’s graveyard.
She’s never felt whatever this feeling was.
Safety.
Her bones sighed in relief.
Finally,
she’d started creating a place for her to stay.
A place in herself to call home.
