Special Note from the Author
The following story is set in the very real town of Jerome, Arizona and, to the best of my knowledge, the historical anecdotes are true. However, I’ve taken the liberty of blending bits of truth, bits of fancy, to craft this story. While the landmarks—including the Sliding Jail, Cuban Queen Bordello, and the old Bartlett Hotel—are real, all businesses and characters exist only in my imagination. The blasts, Spanish Expeditions, and Executive Order 6102 are all a matter of record.
My husband and I first visited Jerome in May, where the unique architecture of the town and the ghost legends immediately intrigued me. In September, my daughter and I returned to do in-depth research. We stayed in a “haunted” hotel, engaged in ghost tours, and soaked up as much lore, legend, and history as possible. Thank you, Winter, for helping me research and for making it a fun and productive mother/daughter trip!
I also want to thank Jane Goddard for her invaluable information, dienel96 for a wonderful cover, and you for reading.
