Silence. The world wasn’t supposed to be silent. Jade pulled herself from her depths. She no longer felt the building or the ground. Darkness surrounded her.
She didn’t move. She didn’t want to leave. The wind she’d known as friend reigned here. The warmth was the darkness. Finally, some daylight— some hope.
Jade’s hands and arms ached. The man’s blood made her skin itch. She had killed someone. He wasn’t the first person to do something unspeakable to her and wouldn’t be the last. He had deserved to die. She shouldn’t have been the one to pass judgment.
Her body protested. She still managed to stand.
Whoever found that man’s body would probably take it home to do something perverse to it. Her stomach rolled. The soothing darkness wrapped around her like skin and eased the mental image into the back of her mind. She lifted her arms, wanting to hug this place. The darkness ran down her side, over her face, through her hair. It entwined around her fingers.
More.
It wrapped its arms around her. Lips pressed to hers. The electric darkness seeped into her. It sparked her dead skin. It shocked her heart to life. She squeezed her eyes. The lips became more possessive. Jade had been kissed before— not as a willing participant. She never let anyone touch her. No one had ever done it like this before. This was a kiss the way Mom and Dad described it.
Thumbs brushed her cheeks. Her head sat in someone’s hands. A man stood in front of her. He pulled away. The kiss lingered. Everything tingled. Her skin wove the strange feeling through it.
The world was darkness. Jade saw as though light existed.
Such heartbreaking blankness lived in this man’s eyes. The darkness swirled around him. His eyes glowed brown. His hands went down her arms. The darkness and the warmth calmed her aching muscles. His hands moved to her wrist and her fingers. The pain vanished. The blood cleaned. He pulled away until darkness consumed him.
