Vayle wanted to close the space between them and hug her until her ribs cracked just to show how pleased he was to see her and how angry he was at her for leaving him for five years. It had been so long since he had seen her so relaxed.
Vayle had been so furious with her for even considering leaving him that he didn’t speak to her the year before her departure. He wanted nothing to do with the preparations. She had no right to be excited.
He didn’t see her off. Bleak had to pound some sense into him months after Shade left to get him to visit her. It was then he regretted not being with her every day during the year of the preparations. The only way he communicated with Shade was when he visited her. Iniquity wanted to limit the amount of time spent in human presence, so he needed their permission to see her. Shade couldn’t return to Raesul unless a Del’Praeli sceadued her there.
Iniquity gave him a week’s visit every year. How he exercised that week was his choice. Over five years, Vayle had seen his sister only one month.
