When you meet someone, don’t expect the person to instantly fulfill all your dreams and desires, especially not on the first date. Rather, enjoy each encounter, and give some head thought (as opposed to heart thought) about the person when you are back at home. What did you like/dislike about the date? Were you alert to any past problems? Did you find yourself glossing over warning signals just because you’ve been alone so long?
Miss Austen’s advice rings true on this point when she writes: “How quick come the reasons for approving what we like.” (Jane Austen, Persuasion)
Let your head guide you in your heartfelt quest, and don’t be afraid to take your time. You can’t lose what you haven’t got. The person who is right for you will be patient and give you time.
