One day I had a telephone interview with a reporter from the New York Times that led to one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my life.
At the end of the interview the reporter asked if he could send a photographer to my house.
A few days later a rather small unassuming man arrived at my home. He asked permission to rearrange some furniture as he set up a couple of shots. His level of enthusiasm was contagious as he gave me direction for the photos: Look over here, smile, etc.
At one point he commented that I had photos of Bruce displayed and stated how as a Buddhist he doesn’t display photos of the dead. We had a good conversation about our beliefs and as the conversation continued, he shared about losing his entire family and asked, “Have you seen the movie The Killing Fields?”
“No, but I am familiar with the story.”
“It is my story.”
I was speechless.
Dith Pran was in my living room. He gave me his business card and told me about the work he did speaking to schools.
Wow. Just wow.
