Humming a tune to herself, Laura went into the cottage. Nanny almost knocked her down as she quickly stood from crouching at the window. Laura laughed to herself as she accused in a stern voice, “Were you spying on me?”
Nanny, turning bright red, said, “Oh, no, Miss Laura. I just saw Bradford riding up and thought I’d better see what he needed.”
Patting Nanny’s shoulder, Laura said, “In case you didn’t hear, we’re going on a picnic tomorrow. Did you hear the time of eleven o’clock?” She smiled and winked at Nanny, who blushed again and nodded.
