Laura smiled back, retorting, “I could be here with my worst enemy, and I’d still enjoy this paradise.” Then she became aware of the coldness slowly filling his eyes. With a timid laugh, she clarified, “But I’m glad I’m with a good friend and not an enemy. I feel very safe with you.”
“That’s why I asked the judge to choose me as your partner,” Bradford stated as he gazed at her pensively. “I still can’t figure out who would want to harm you.”
