“Pleased to meet you, I’m Cissie,” she answered.
They shook hands and chit chatted a bit, one eating and the other tatting doilies. Once Zygi was done eating, he cleaned up and settled back into his seat. Soon he was fast asleep.
…………………………..
Once home, things happened quickly. First they had to talk to Maddy’s parents, no easy task. Zygi got his job back at the grocery store, and they made a trip to Reno to officially become man and wife. They lived at Maddy’s house for about a month while they saved up money for a place of their own. They found a little one bedroom apartment and were surprised at the response of Maddy’s church. They worried everyone there would judge them and hate them, but to their great surprise, everyone pitched in with things for their first apartment. A sofa came from the Pajaro’s, and a table and chairs from the Mitchells. One of the men offered Zygi a job. Brother Timothy was a plumber and would train Zygi. Wow, it was too much.
Zygi felt he had to go to the church to thank everyone. At the beginning of the service they started singing “In the Sweet By and By” and unbidden tears began to roll down Zygi’s face. Brothers gathered around and prayed with Zygi until he was speaking in a heavenly language. Sister Brooks could be seen dancing and crying for joy as her son-in-law was born again in answer to her prayer.
He was baptized that very night in Jesus Name, completing the new birth of water and Spirit he had heard about. What an awesome feeling! Why had he waited so long?
