The Zella Chronicles
“You’re so lucky,” Zella said, a dreamy look on her face. “You have all these brothers and sisters, a mother and a father, and all these friends. Wow, God must love you more than I love cornbread.” She smiled over at Eleanor, who had a thoughtful expression on her face. She didn’t really know what to say. Looking around she answered, “I never thought of it like that.” Then looking at Zella she thought, She has none of these things, and she is still happy for me that I have them. Looking around at her home, family and friends, Eleanor got a lump in her throat. “I wish you could come and live with us.” Briefly she thought how great it would be to have someone to play with all the time. That bubble burst as quickly as it had formed. “I wish I could, but aunt Marybelle has her own ideas. I’ll only be here a couple of days,” she said sadly. Then, Zella got up with a grin and said, “So, we better get back in the game while we can. Tag!” Zella sprinted away with Eleanor close behind.
