Sal cleared her throat. Neph looked at her and gave a nod. Before she began Bently chimed in, “How do like them apples?” as he flapped his wings and a few feathers fell out. This eased the tension with smiles and snickers all around. Then Sally began, “There is something else I want us to keep in mind.” She looked around the table. “I want to remind everyone that God is in control.” She waited a moment hoping that would sink in then continued. “No matter what happens, keep trusting in God. It’s time for all of us to draw closer to God.”
“That’s right,” chimed in Grandma Gladys.
“That’s what we’ve always done,” put in Grandpa Frank.
Sal continued, “Your father and I have purchased a small bit of land. It’s about three hours north of here near a lake. There are rumors of things getting worse. If that happens, we want somewhere to go if we need to leave the city.”
Jeremy asked, “What do you mean? What is going to happen? Why can’t we stay here?”
Sal looked at Neph, “You remember I mentioned a new executive order?” he said.
Everyone nodded and said they did.
“Well, that new order is the kind of order that a president puts in place in the time of war. It gives him even more power than usual.”
“Are we in war, Dad?” Anna asked in a small voice.
“Not the kind of war this order is needed for. We have troops here and there, but, it looks like something big is coming.”
