“Que suerte, we got lucky,” Blas said. He fumbled with the tools on the workbench in the Mission shop. “Can you imagine us making something used in the Mass?”
“Don’t get too holy, amigo,” Sal said. “Sure, Brother David seems like a good sort, for a religious man, but we are only staying here until I think of something better.”
“Did you hear him say I have a gift for making candlesticks for the glory of God?” Blas said. He appeared very comfortable at the Mission, too comfortable. When Brother David left Sal and Blas alone in the Mission workshop, they shared their secrets.
“Okay, so we fooled him so far,” Sal said. “But there is no way we are going to stay here for two years, Viceroy’s orders or not.” Sal wanted to get out and see other parts of this New World, especially the famous silver mines.
