Author Biography

Dr. Perez Ferguson is a cross-cultural educator and consultant. Her fiction brings to life the voices of California inhabitants living 200 years ago. She has twice won the Best YA Fiction Award from the San Francisco Writers Conference, 2021 and 2022.

The idea of taking a state team to an international tournament in Mexico caught the interest of the college and the community. Lupe’s life intensified after her successful pitch for more varsity softball team support at the provost’s public relations meeting. She did not envision the attention her plan would put on her or the changes it would make to her private life.

She was required to prepare for photographers and public appearances by undergoing beauty treatments that held no appeal for her. She knew other women highlighted their hair and waxed their brows, but this never crossed Lupe’s mind as an athlete. Her budget did not include money for the costly treatments.
