Though she could have led a life in quiet solitude, unseen in a crowd of nameless faces, the stars imposed their order and allowed their paths to cross. When Aurelio met her gaze, there was sadness in her eyes, he could not place. He did not allow that to deter him from finding out why she attended the festivities with a heavy heart. It was in this innocent way that Aurelio Valentino embarked on the journey to discover the torments of true love.
Arabella was awakened by sadness. Not the sadness she felt from loneliness with no recollection of her past, but the profound sadness felt when one sees heaven and is forbidden to enter. Only then did she realize that she had slept a long time without changing position on her side of the bed. She glanced over to where Ramiro normally slept, but he was gone. Her first reaction was one of hope as she thought more about Aurelio Valentino than she thought about her stranger of a husband, and she leapt out of bed with a sense of purpose.
Aurelio Valentino, on the other hand, remained trapped within the confines of the book. A lover whose passion was held prisoner on the pages, and whose past remained as mysterious as her own. Little by little he hinted at his intention, which was to find the woman he loved. To help her find him, he penned a series of love letters embedded in the story with cryptic prose to lure her back along the path of a broken heart.
