Synopsis
Setting out to find food in a melting Arctic landscape, Captain Polo finds himself back on the ocean waves in his trusty sailing boat, falling into one crazy adventure after another. Except this time, he is sailing to the tune of a secret agenda planned by a hidden stowaway! Book 4 of this series of educational comics about climate change takes Captain Polo on another rollicking global journey that uncovers ever more important aspects of our era's most serious environmental crisis, and importantly, also the many ways we can all become part of the solution.

Author Biography
Based in biodiversity-rich Ecuador, Alan wears several hats: he is an author-illustrator, an educator and a conservation biologist. Alan’s work is inspired by the majesty and fragility of nature and the need to do everything we can to protect it. Alan combines his artistic creativity with his technical experience and knowledge to create scientifically accurate, educational children’s books full of quirky, comic humour and fun action, and usually bearing a message about how everyone can help preserve Nature. Alan draws the artwork in his comic or picture books by hand and then edits it all digitally. He is the author of five educational comic books for middle grade children, among which his main ongoing focus is the Captain Polo series about climate change. Bears, mammoths and permafrost

Did you know that global warming is upsetting the hibernation patterns of bears? How much do you know about permafrost and the effects of it melting as a result of human-induced climate change? On this page Captain Polo runs into all of these issues. As usual, I am always careful to balance that education - entertainment ratio, and I try to do this on every page. Here we have Polo talking to a disgruntled brown bear prematurely woken from a short hibernation, before falling into a huge excavation pit, where his fall breaks off the tusk of an exposed wooly mammoth being excavated (inspired by a scene in Asterix and Cleopatra). This provides the perfect introduction to a piece of climate change information provided by the outraged paleontologists.
