The men-at-arms collectively held the
struggling man, pulling back his soaked hood,
forcing his head on to the flat part of the
fallen tree. Another knight retrieved his battle-
axe. In their haste and rage, none of the
knights listened to the man’s pleas nor did
they bother to get his name or look closely at
his face.
The sharp blade fell. At once, blood
soaked through the man’s outer cloak and into
his surcoat, turning the royal black dragon
emblem bright-red.
