He laughed and turned from the fire to look directly at me. “You’re lovely in the firelight.” He dug out my ivory comb and began to comb out my still-damp, thick hair. Soon it was shiny and free of tangles.
“You’re always so modest,” Masheka said softly. He pushed the buckskin off my shoulders and it dropped to my waist. I shivered as the cool night air touched my bare skin. He slowly reached out and caressed one of my breasts with a reverent expression on his handsome face.
“Your skin is so smooth. I have wanted to touch you like this for a long time. Your beauty makes my heart beat like a drum.” He drew my hand to his chest so I could feel it. I found him beautiful as well, with the red and gold firelight reflecting on his face and bare chest. He drew me to him and his chest felt good against my breasts.
“Your people are fortunate to have such a strong, courageous medicine woman.” He lay down on his sleeping couch, drawing me down beside him. One side of my body was warmed by the fire and the other side by the heat of his body.
“Why aren’t you protesting?” he asked, running his hand down my back.
“You’ve stolen my will as well as my heart. I’ve no wish to deny you anything.”
“Yet you refuse to share a lodge with me.”
“I’m guided in a different direction.”
