A soft, warm light glowed from the stove. Thor lifted her head when he walked past her cage. Recognizing him, she lowered her snout to her paws and went back to sleep.
Yawning, he opened the fridge for a beer and something to eat. He saw a small tray with a sandwich, a brownie—the kind he liked with chocolate chips and walnuts—and a beer. He placed the tray on the island counter next to a bag of chips.
Michelle was too good to him.
He removed the plastic wrap from the sandwich and brownie and dropped a handful of chips on the plate. He licked chip dust from his fingers when he spotted a folded note card on the counter.
He traced the engraved Michelle E. Taylor on the front of the card and smiled. It reminded him of her—tasteful, elegant and understated. He flipped open the card and read her note.
Hey,
I hope things got better at work.
There’s a sandwich and brownie for you in the fridge.
If you’re not too tired, you can wake me up from my nap.
Wink. Wink.

Damien tore into the sandwich, releasing an appreciative groan when he tasted bacon and actual roasted turkey instead of deli meat.
She was most definitely too good to him.
