Writing in Community is a book of inspiration and encouragement for writers who want to reach deep within themselves and write to their fullest potential. There is magic in a successful writing group. This book helps writers tap into that magic, and with gentle wisdom and humor, experience unprecedented breakthroughs in creativity.
Becky's writing group has meant a lot to her. She loves the energy and synchronicity of using the generative process in the writing group to take her creativity to new heights. A longtime educator, poet and essayist, Becky draws the inspiration for her writing from the magic and wisdom of being present in the world. The strength and beauty of people continue to amaze her, and their guidance has been her best teacher. Her book, co-authored with Lucy Adkins, Writing in Community: Say Goodbye to Writer's Block and Transform Your Life, won the 2014 Silver Independent Publishers Award in Writing/Publishing. Sometimes when the words don't flow, we get frustrated, mad, even give up. Thinking that this is it...I'm finished as a writer. The good news is that our creative wells are bottomless. We have to learn to recognize that a bit of a writer's block is part of the natural cycle of writing. Our ideas are just incubating. Once we learn to accept the "downs" and relax into it, momentum changes and we soon have something flowing on our paper or onto the screen.

Writing in Community
Life happens in all its wonderful and terrible manifestations—sickness, romance, heartbreak, grief—and we must live out each experience. Or, it may be that an idea comes to you, but you are too sad or exhausted or busy dealing with impossible expectations in your work life to honor the writing impulse. Procrastination happens, too. At times like these, don’t be too hard on yourself if you are unable to write. Don’t beat yourself up. We are human, after all, with all our human foibles and weaknesses, but we can pick ourselves up when we fall. The universe is timeless and immense, and when we are able to re-engage our creative energies and go back to fully inhabiting our writing lives, it will still be there with its incredible promise.
