Three o'clock in the morning, his cell rang. He sat right up, peeked at the caller id, then flipped open the phone.
“Why are you calling me at freaking three in the morning?
I turned on the lamp on the night stand.
“Was anything taken?
“Jesus. You have got to be kidding me. Did you catch the bastard?
“Good. That will add some time to his sentence.”
As he listened to the caller for a few minutes, he looked at me.
“What is it?” I whispered.
He shook his head and put up his hand.
“How bad is it?
“And Molly's room?”
I got out of bed and sat near Matthew. I figured out someone had broken into the house. It had to be Kent.
“Well, at least that's something. Should we come home?” he asked reaching for my hand.
“I'll talk to Alexis. Thanks for calling, Bryce. Make sure they know about the restraining order. I don't suppose he had a weapon.”
It was Kent.
“OK. Yeah. All right. I'll talk to you in the morning. I mean, later in the morning.”
Matthew's face was full of malice and repulsion. He took a moment to compose himself.
“Yeah. He broke into the house. Destroyed your room.”
