As Maggie was pulling out the shoes, she noticed something else stuck inside one of them. She pulled it out.
“Sarah, have you ever seen this before?”
Sarah shook her head.
“Neither have I. I wonder what this is doing in this box? This looks very old.”
Maggie and Sarah were looking at a rusted piece of iron. An amulet, perhaps. It was shaped like a crescent, like the sun rising over the horizon, and was bisected by a “V” that extended both below and above the crescent. The “V” had a spearheaded shape on the top right side and a rounded design resembling a curved trident on the left.
Maggie held the object up, turned it around, and examined it. “I have seen something like this before. Back in Scotland. When I was in school. Whatever was Ben doing with something like this?”
Sarah reached over. “May I take a look?” She waited for Maggie to give it to her and then peered at it. “I have never seen anything like this before. You say it reminds you of something you saw as a child?”
“Yes, but I can’t for the life of me remember what. If I can’t remember, I’ll ask Dougal. I’m sure he’ll be able to identify it for me.”
