Act Honestly and Truthfully
Most people know what the right thing is.
It’s the doing that gives trouble.
Harry S. Truman
Once you live your life according to strong core values and honesty, truthfulness will follow. The truth flows from the heart, not the ego. The honesty is forthright, caring and gentle and is more easily accepted. Communications and actions originate from integrity, self-approval and a healthy sense of self-esteem.
Leaders with a healthy sense of self-esteem have little need for one-upmanship, proving someone wrong or being brutally honest. We sense when someone is going to be brutally honest, as that person tends to say something along these lines: “I know this is going to sound mean, but it is for your own good.” Immediately we stop breathing and our hearts shut down as we prepare for the onslaught. Spirited leaders know that a person who is breathing and who has an open heart is able to hear and receive the information more readily. For these leaders, it is simply a matter of speaking their truth in a manner that is heard and understood.
This refreshing truthfulness — this transparency — generates trust and commitment to do what is right and to challenge the status quo to achieve new levels of innovation and growth.
The freedom to be honest and to be honored fuels greatness.
