"Yes," I reiterated after him. "Isis can be demanding, but she is
also kind and compassionate to those she loves. She is my personal
protector," I explained.
Caesar laughed. "And, at times, you are her," he said.
"Yes. To my people, you are Osiris, my brother-husband. The
Nile," I continued, "was formed when Isis wept tears for her husband."
We traveled in silence towards the base of the nearest pyramid.
"You Egyptians have strange beliefs," Caesar said.
"We think it strange that you Romans kill people in the arena for
sport."
Caesar laughed sardonically at that. "It is called 'bloodsport', and
it is at the very heart of what it means to be Roman."
