Susie walked over to Andrew and held out her hands. “Give me the harness. I at least want to try.” When Andrew didn’t move, Susie smiled slightly and said, “You afraid a woman’s going to show you up?”
“No! I don’t feel that way at all,” he said, starting to feel undeserved pressure. “It has nothing to do with the fact that you’re a woman. I wouldn’t even let Matt try it if he wanted.”
Matt looked slightly hurt and said, “Oh, I’m feeling good about myself now! Thanks, buddy.”
Andrew looked around at the people standing in the garage. “You guys are blowing this way out of proportion.”
Julie walked over to Andrew and put her hand on his arm. “Just let her try, Andrew. What harm can it do?”
Andrew stood quietly for a moment, all eyes watching him in anticipation. He looked from person to person and then, in an obvious gesture of defeat, began to remove the harness. He stopped as everyone began to clap and cheer. “Oh stop it! I’ll let you do this, but don’t get all mad at me if you get hurt.”
Susie looked at Andrew with a sad deer look. “Oh Andrew. Don’t be so paranoid. I’m your friend and I’m asking you to let me do this. Besides, I couldn’t do anything to you if I got hurt.”
“What do you mean? Our friendship means more to you than that?”
Susie smirked as she spoke her reply. “I couldn’t squeeze any money out of you. I know you don’t have any.”
